Winnipeg, Manitoba - This Thursday, March 4th, at least 7 teams, including one anchored by Mayor Sam Katz, will be taking to the race track at Speedworld, Winnipeg’s only indoor kart track. At 10am sharp, the green flag will drop on the Le Mans at Speedworld event which begins a grueling 8 hours of kart racing action. Each team will be racing to see who can complete the most amount of laps in the 8 hour race and drivers on each team will be swapping in and out throughout the day with some teams having over 25 of their own employees as drivers. Teams already confirmed include… - Boeing - Deloitte - Jade Transport - Mid-West Tire - Tell Us About Us - Wallace & Wallace Fences - Winnipeg Convention Centre
A Media/VIP team is also entered in the competition and includes the likes of Mayor Sam Katz, Councillor Gord Steeves, and Blue Bomber Obby Kahn. Numerous media outlets throughout the city are also represented on the team so if any media wishes to take part in the event and spend some time driving, please contact David @ 204-371-8700. Teams will be treated to a tasteful delight as Boston Pizza Polo Park will be supplying everyone with lunch between 12 and 2pm. Red Bull will also be stopping by to support the event. Speedworld and David Richert Racing wish to extend a huge thanks to both Boston Pizza and Red Bull for their generous support. Driving race cars at a high level is a sport unlike any other and requires drivers to bring large amounts of funding with them in order to advance their careers. Speedworld owners Mark & Briget Sawatsky, avid racers themselves, recognize this so they are donating all of the proceeds from the event towards the career of race car driver David Richert. “We wanted to host a unique and fun event that participants would enjoy, but we also wanted to raise funds to help David continue to represent Winnipeg, Manitoba, on the international motorsport stage” stated Briget. In each of the last 2 years, David Richert has been selected by Volkswagen as one of the best young race car drivers in North America. Richert has produced admirable results on the track while dominating the competition off the track, as evidenced by winning Volkswagen’s prestigious Jetta TDI Cup Public Relations contest in both seasons. As a result of this, Richert has been invited by Volkswagen to race for them in Germany provided some funding requirements are met.
“The last few years have been huge for my racing career…” said Richert, “…I have some great opportunities for this season also but it will depend on whether or not I can take care of the financial commitments necessary, which is why I am so grateful to Mark & Briget at Speedworld for hosting this event.” |
